Thinking about the Church
We all know that Monday is Memorial Day. That's a big deal, and I hope and pray that your family will take some time to reflect on our freedoms, pray for God's blessing on those families who have lost loved ones in service of our country, and look for ways to help put our country back on track.
But Sunday is Pentecost. It is the birthday of the church and the day we set aside to remember those men and women who gave their lives to build God's church here on earth. More people have died for the name of Jesus in the past few decades than did so for the first two thousand years of its existence, but the simple truth is that millions of people from every corner of this globe have given their lives for the cause of Christ. We need to be just as grateful for their sacrifice as we are for the great men and women of the US Armed Forces.
As we are fond of saying, freedom isn't free. Our country owes a great debt to our fallen servicemen and women. Our freedom in Christ isn't free. It cost Jesus His life, and also the lives of many who died to spread that good news. But here's my encouragement: God remembers. Read this passage from Revelation 7:

After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice:
“Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb.”
Who are the members of this esteemed multitude? God's martyrs. He remembers. We must remember, too. mww
