Minister of Music & Worship

Mark Bowers

Rev. Mark Bowers has served as the Minister of Music and Worship at First Baptist in Thomson since January of 2009. Mark grew up in Elba, Alabama. His foundation for a life of music ministry began to develop in his home church where he served as pianist during high school. He is a 1986 graduate of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, where he earned a Bachelor of Music, and a 1991 graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas where he earned a Master of Music. Mark has served churches in Alabama, Texas, South Carolina and Georgia since 1981 on both a part time and full time basis, with the years after seminary being in full time ministry. Since 1993 Mark has been married to Becky Ginn Bowers of Thomasville, Alabama. They have two daughters, Bethany-Grace and Hannah.

"The Worship of God is the passion of my heart. When Jesus was asked to name the greatest of the commandments he said that the greatest commandment is 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' My heart's desire is to help the people of God to pursue a personal daily relationship to God through personal daily worship, and to then bring the overflow of that daily walk with him into our experiences of corporate worship. When worship begins at home and that spirit of worship is brought to our corporate gatherings, then God is glorified.  When all of life is an act of worship then all of life is all for His glory."

Minister of Education & Family Ministries

Rev. David WalkerDavid Walker has served as Pastor of Education and Family Ministries at FBC Thomson since 2008.  He was born in Greenwood, SC and grew up in the nearby town of Ninety Six. David earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from The University of South Carolina, and a Master of Arts in Christian Education from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.  Married for 13 years, he and his wife Bonnie have three children; Summer, Dave, and Sadie.

“Of all the blessings the Lord has given me, the three I treasure the most are my faith, my family, and the privilege of being called to pastoral ministry.  I became a Christian when I was in high school through the outreach of a local student ministry.  In the 20 years since then, I have found deep joy in discovering the fullness of life as a follower of Jesus.  A great source of that joy has been my wife and our 3 wonderful children.  The gift of family is truly a source of strength and fulfillment that sustains me in the marathon of life. I believe that when the church gathers it should be a refreshing time to worship God, connect with each other, and serve together in reaching the world for Jesus.”

Minister of Students & Christian Activities

David Lambert has served as Pastor of Student Ministries and Activities at FBC Thomson since July 2001. David was born and raised in Maryville, TN. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Belmont University in Nashville, TN, with a major in Religion and a minor in Youth and Recreation Ministry and earned a Masters of Divinity from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX. Married for 10 years, he and his wife Julia have a daughter, Abby.

"My experiences growing up in a strong Christian home and being in a church that encouraged me to express my gifts and explore my calling when I was a teenager have shown me the long-term benefits of a well-rounded ministry to children and students, as well as an understanding of the role caring adults can play in developing young followers of Christ.  I believe the most effective ministry to students must include their family, either by reaching the parents for Christ and/or by equipping them and coming alongside them as they help disciple their children."
